Manchester Academic Health Sciences Centre Cardiovascular Diseases Biobank (MAHSC CVD-Biobank)
The MAHSC CVD-Biobank will store tissue and blood samples from patients that have been diagnosed with any cardiovascular disease. Tissue will include: atrial appendage and internal mammary artery, aorta where aortic root surgery is being performed for genetic aortopathy/bicuspid aortopathy. Tissue will be obtained from all patients having surgery for Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG), Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR) and Mitral Valve Replacement (MVR). Tissue samples will be stored as formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) blocks and frozen tissue. If requested DNA, RNA and proteins can be extracted from frozen, FFPE tissues and blood. Processed derivatives in the form of serum, plasma will also be stored. The MAHSC CVD-Biobank will also store anonymised data linked to the samples which will include demographic, medical and imaging data. We would like to build a resource of 400 samples initially. We estimate that all this tissue would be used in research studies.
