Plaque Project - Gingivitis study

Year Started: 2018

Subjects who have healthy gums and no exclusionary factors undertake to not brush ¼ of their teeth for 3 weeks. This split mouth designed study collects gingival crevicular fluid samples from both test and control teeth before, during and 2 weeks after the non-brushing phase. This study is usually repeated yearly and other samples (eg serum/ plasma/ plaque) could be collected alongside if requested.

Extracted teeth from patients of Birmingham Dental Hospital are collected as waste tissue and stored for both research and teaching purposes. All types and levels of carious diseased teeth are collected and stored.
