Heart, Lung and Critcial Care (HLCC) Biobank

The Heart, Lung and Critical Care (HLCC) Biobank, based at Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, is a licensed and ethically approved Biobank supporting Cardiovascular and Respiratory research. The Biobank holds blood and tissue from patients with Cardiovascular and Respiratory disease and healthy volunteers. The unique resources include but not limited to lung and airway tissue, tumour samples, myocardium, heart valves, coronary vessels, sputum, and associated bloods. The Biobank also provides access to diagnostic archive material through pathology services. All samples are collected under informed consent and linked with detailed clinical medical data. Access applications are reviewed by the HLCC Biobank Access Committee to ensure ethical and scientific merit. The Biobank supports both academic and commercial research and has extensive experience in tissue handling, sample processing, and governance.
